| Virtual Life and Avatars . . . Reality? | | |
 | 228779 | Oct 19, 2005 3:31pm | Possessing Barbie is an easy to skip over site. The title sounds vaguely like it is either pornography or for children (ick). It is actually about chat rooms and avatars and what they say about people. Avatars on StumbleUpon I find really interesting, especially when they obviously don't match the person. You know, the person describes himself as in his fifties and his avatar looks like Playboy Bunny.
Perhaps it is hypocritical, but I also am uncomfortable with those who are clearly lying about their age. They say they're five or so and yet their stumbles are R-rated with comments that make it clear they have at least a junior-high vocabulary.
Anyway, I find avatars interesting and this site explores some of the problems associated with their use. |
